New talented player : Mikael Dyrestam

Mikael Dyrestam - IFK Goteborg's outstanding left-back

Club: Goteborg
Nationality: Sweden
Age: 19
Height: 1.85 m / 6.07 ft
Weight: 75 kg / 165 lbs

Background and History

Mikael, who has a Swedish father and a Guinean mother, was promoted to Goteborg's senior squad in 2009, playing 17 matches in his debut season.

The youngster had actually begun his professional career at Goteborg as a central defender, but was switched to participate as a left defender due to his on-going injuries and he can also be used as a right-back.

In the beginning of the season Goteborg manager, Jonas Olsson, said that he plans to use Dyrestam as a central defender from now on. But despite the club's recent selling of star centre-back Ragnar Sigurdsson to FC Kobenhavn, he is still playing on the left side.

Strengths

The 1.85m-tall is a calm, all-rounded player, holding great dribbling skills, as well as a good passing game, with excellent crosses out wide.

Dyre is also very good in the air and although he might seem to be quite slow, he is actually very fast for his size.

An attacking minded defender, who can cause a lot of damage on his opponents, especially with his dangerous crosses inside the box. Dyre is a player who can hold is ground in the defensive end and can position himself well, which is also why he will rarely need to slide to retrieve the ball.

Weaknesses

Mikael's obvious weakness is his injuries, which he currently seems to have been recovered from. Earlier this year in April, Dyre attempted to make his return, but after just 38 minutes he was forced to be replaced.

Additionally, Dyre may also sometimes lack a bit of concentration and may sometimes be late to return to defense after offensive runs. At just 19, he has plenty of time to improve on marking his opponents.

Mentality

Dyre has been through a lot in his short career, proving that he has the right attitude and devotion in order to fully recover from the type of on-going injuries that he has suffered from. An experience which has also made him a very mature player for his age.

Current Situation

Although Dyrestam was injured last season, he was signed to a four-year-contract at Goteborg before his surgery and recovery period, signing with the club until the end of the season 2013.

Which just goes to show the amount of confidence that he has received from his club and is still receiving, opening in the starting line-up whenever he is in good health.

Goteborg manager Jonas Olsson recently said the "He has really impressed on the left side, so for now we want to keep him there. He's very offensive and always creates problems for the opponents. He has played really good since he came back".

Five central defenders have transferred out from IFK Goteborg since 2004 and with Sigurdsson's recent transfer, Dyre hopes to become the next one to make it to the next stage, but for now he hopes to first acquire a regular spot as central defender in IFK Goteborg .

IMScouting scouts believe that Dyrestam has the ability to become a star defender for Sweden, but only if he manages to stay away from more injuries.
